A pop-up (also called a tent trailer or camper trailer) consists of a compact trailer with rigid sides of about 18 inches in height, along with a rigid top. When it's time to set up camp, the top "pops up" from the bottom, and a set of canvas walls with mesh windows fold up and out to provide ample sleeping and living quarters. Popup campers range in price from $3,000 to $20,000, depending on whether you're buying new or used, the size of the trailer, and the types of amenities you add on to the basic unit. If you decide to buy a used pop-up, inspect the canvas thoroughly. Badly damaged walls can be replaced, but you may want to avoid the expense and hassle of doing so.
